Greenhough (pronounced green hoff), is located in the small winegrowing region of Nelson, tucked away in the north west corner of New Zealandís South Island, next door to the more famous and much larger Marlborough region
Andrew Greenhough and his wife, Jenny Wheeler founded Greenhough in 1991. A former artist, Andrew had no formal winemaking experience, but like winemaker cohorts Clive Paton of Ata Rangi and Tim Finn of Neudorf, he learned from first hand experience.
A small winery, Greenhough sources grapes from several different vineyards in Nelson, including the Hope Vineyard which they purchased in 1991. The Hope Vineyard was originally planted in the 1970ís making it one of the oldest vineyards in Nelson and lies on the edge of the Waimea Plains, just a few miles inland from the Tasman Sea. The vineyard is primarily planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and a little Pinot Blanc. Greenhough sources additional grapes further to the east in Mapua, where they are also developing another vineyard in the heavier soils of this region.
